His head is back, his eyes are shut, his arms are slack, all despite those restraints. She doesn't know how it's possible, but Laura thinks he might be asleep.

There are still lines on Lee's face and between his brows: pain, pain that's deeper and more personal than even the death of Humanity. Determination and frustration, the lines drawn so often on Captain Apollo, she could handle those. He would handle them, more likely, with a grim mouth and a child's eyes, but she could help ease or fuel the right emotions. He has let her hold the lead that much, granted her that permission, and she's well aware of his consent; she's felt, and now experienced again, what happens when he bucks. There is, however, nothing she can do for the pain that goes with those stains drying on Lee's hands, his arms, his shirts, close enough to being his lifeblood that it's him bleeding out while locked in here. No one can do anything for that.

There have been too many turns today, too many taken as both right and wrong. They need to find their way to a straight path.

When she closes her eyes, the lines haven't grown, but his hands are clenched.
