"Closer than you think."

She'd meant one thing, knowing he'd take it as another. And yet, as she had discovered, he was in fact the one closer to the truth. It was irritating how often that was the case.

She tightened the gloves, pulling the ties until just before the tingle started. Can't afford to have them fall off, but performance can't be sacrificed, even in practice.

It hadn't been practice that day. Her performance had been slow because she hadn't kept a tight enough hold on her dreams.

Her clenched fist struck. She welcomed pain when it struck back.
